A Brick, in its traditional sense is a symbol of life, containing elements of earth, water, fire, and windIt is a simple object of soil and water, yet it can be changed into a different form once an outer pressure is added to it to harden it.A brick can be more than just a building block, it contains within it, texture, dimension, weight, and strength. A brick can exist as an individual unit and coexist as a collective, creating a whole cohesive pattern,It exists everywhere, can be seen and unseen, noticed and unnoticed.

A brick can also be the self.

With these ideas, I started my research on the metaphor of the brick and what it symbolizes, all while keeping in mind the human condition of expression and perception. My interest in the brick started as this one unit that creates structures, homes, and buildings; places to house, and protect. But what happens when that unit contains elements of frailty, made with a malleable material. How many layers can be added upon it to camouflage its fragile base? Can the appearance of what is perceived as rigid trick you? Questioning the inside versus the outside, the mold and the relief, the system and the individual, the points of strength in opposition to the points of collapse.
